Ruth Ellen Landon

PARKSLEY, Va. - Miss Ruth Ellen Landon, of Parksley, Va., passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at Heritage Hall Nursing Center in Nassawadox, Va. Born on Nov. 8, 1931, on Tangier Island, she was the daughter of the late Charlie C. and Nona Parks Landon. Ruth was very dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and their children. She loved music, which she often expressed during her time as a member of both the Onley United Methodist Church and Broadway Baptist Church choirs. Ruth was retired from Perdue Farms and was a former longtime employee of the R&G Shirt Factory. Survivors include a sister, Lucille L. Chambers of Onancock; four brothers, Charles M. Landon of Bena, Va., Harold Burke Landon of Tangier, Va., Edward Landon of Rhodes Point, Md., and Stanley Landon of Onley, Va.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Elsie Landon; and two brothers, Bates Landon and Ross Landon. A memorial service was conducted at the Swain United Methodist Church on Tangier Thursday, Aug. 25, 2011, at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Darren Landon officiating. Graveside services were held at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. with the Reverends Robert Smoot and Albert Crockett officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36282 Lankford Highway, Suite 13D, Belle Haven, VA 23306.
