FISHING CREEK - Ruby L. Travers, age 94, of Fishing Creek, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Talbot Hospice House, Easton. Born on Oct. 16, 1914, in Fishing Creek, she was the daughter of the late Bertha Horseman Travers and Alexander Travers. Mrs. Travers was the wife of the late Thomas Travers, whom she married in 1933. Mrs. Travers was a crab picker, having worked at various seafood companies on Hoopers Island. Mrs. Travers was a member of the Riverside Wesleyan Church, Hoopers Island. Surviving are five daughters, Freida "Sis" Johnson of Ellendale, Del., Nancy Stafford of Federalsburg, Diane Towers of Hurlock, Barbara Matthews of East New Market, and Joan Dukes of Crisfield; two sisters Stella Bartlett of Salisbury, and Maggie Travers of Salisbury; one brother, Alexander Travers of Salisbury; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, besides her parents and husband, was a daughter, Loretta Wroten; two sisters, Rida Owens and Dora Bartz; five brothers, Hobert Travers, Curtis Travers, Chester Travers, Ernest Travers, and Lee Travers; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The. Rev. Richard K. Prahl, relative of the deceased, assisted by The Rev. Larry Wroten, grandson of the deceased. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons Tommy Wroten, Larry Wroten, Charles Lednum, Michael Lednum, David Lednum and David Andrews, Jr. Memorial offerings may be made in Mrs. Travers memory to the Church of the Nazarene, 97 Sandy Hill Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.
