CAMBRIDGE - Rory Albert Askins, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2009, in Dorchester General Hospital. Mr. Askins had been in failing health for the past two years. He was 43. He was born in Cambridge on Oct. 23, 1965 to Lucille and the late Clifton E. Askins. He graduated from Cambridge South Dorchester High School in 1983. He was a member of the National Honor Society, played lacrosse and other sports and was represented in the 1982-83 edition of Who's Who Among American High School Students. Upon graduation he received a scholarship to Howard University in Washington, D.C. While he was a student at Howard, he was an honor student and was selected for special recognition for academic excellence in the field of pre-med. Rory later transferred to the University of Maryland in College Park, where he became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. While he was on the Western Shore, he worked at the American Security Bank in Washington, D.C., EER Systems, Steck Sales, Inc. and United Parcel Service. He returned to the Eastern Shore and worked as a night supervisor at Perdue Farms in Salisbury. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his dirt bike and he became interested in raising dogs. He loved being with his dogs, enjoyed watching sports and car races. He is survived by his mother, Lucille Askins; daughter, Rorianna; sisters, Wendy Milligan Lee (Reginald) of Upper Marlboro, Lois Young (Melvin), Rose Banks and Anne Springs (Ricardo), all of Cambridge, Constance Jenkins (Lexington Park), Yvonne Robinson and Iris Washington (both of Richmond, Va.), and Sheila Askins (Baltimore); brothers, Charles Stanley (Shirley) and David Wayne Milligan (Cambridge) and Douglas Askins (Baltimore); a special friend, Anna Williamson; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church 623 Pine St., Cambridge, with a viewing two hours prior to the services.
