MACON, GA. - Roberta Pearl Downes Mitchell, 79, formerly of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, in Macon.

She was born in Henderson on Dec. 18, 1927, and was a daughter of the late Robert Roy Downes and Eleanor Pearl Ashton Downes.

She attended schools in Caroline County and moved to Cambridge in 1945.

She attended the Eastern Shore State Hospital School of Practical Nursing and graduated in 1956. She was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse until she retired in July of 1977.

Mrs. Mitchell had attended the Cambridge Wesleyan Church. Since 2002, she had been living in Macon, Ga. with her daughter, Sandy Mitchell Willing and her family.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sandy Willing of Macon, Ga. and JoAnn Cawley Lee of Alaska; four grandchildren, William D. Cawley, of Atlanta who is attending college in Auburn, Wash.; triplets, Anthony Willing, Samantha Willing and Jessica Willing of Macon, and one brother, William Henry "Buddy" Downes of Goldsboro.

She was preceded in death by three sisters Emma Schlegle, Edna Lister and Mildred Rebecca Downes and one brother, Petey Downes.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday at Greenlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Joseph Harmon officiating. The family will receive friends at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. on Locust Street in Cambridge from 1 until 2:30 p.m., on Monday.
