CAMBRIDGE - Robert E. Arnie, 79, passed away at the Dorchester General Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007.

He was born in Cambridge on March 21, 1928 and was a son of the late Frank F. and Katie Tjaden Arnie.

Mr. Arnie attended school in Cambridge. He worked as a farmer and then as a truck driver for the Eastern Shore Rendering Co. for over 30 years.

He was married to the former Emma Thomas in 1961.

Mr. Arnie enjoyed gardening, fishing and was a member of several different service organizations.

He had been in failing health for the past six months and had been a patient at Dorchester General Hospital since Aug. 3.

Survivors include his wife, Emma E. Arnie of Cambridge; one stepdaughter, Brenda Elzey and her husband, Allen Elzey of Cambridge; two stepsons, Glennwood C. Hubbard and his wife, Rosa Hubbard of Fallston and Leonard Hubbard Jr. and his wife of Cambridge; seven stepgrandchildren and numerous stepgreat-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Tillie Josephine Arnie of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Rose Arnie of Cambridge; two nephews, Edward Arnie of Cambridge and James Arnie of Annapolis and a niece, Shirley Kailianu of Cambridge and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Johnson and a brother, Franklin Darcy Arnie and two other brothers, Matthew Vernon Arnie and John Frederick Arnie who passed away as infants.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge with Glen Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

Pallbearers will be Leonard Hubbard, Allen Elzey, Robert Elzey, Thomas Powley, William Huether and Curtis Simmons. Honorary bearers will be Robert Parker, Jay Newcomb, Catherine Jones, Reginald Lewis, Larry Parks and Troy Hubbard.
