CAMBRIDGE - Richard Douglas passed away on Oct. 1, 2012 in Kula Hospital, Maui Hawaii. Mr. Douglas was born Dec. 31, 1931 in Southfields, London, England. He came to North America 1st settling in Vancouver, British Columbia and eventually coming to the United States to attend the University of Idaho. A life long athlete, Mr Douglas competed in track & field, concentrating on long distance. He represented all three nations- competing for Canada in the Pan American games in San Paulo, Brazil and "running" for the University of Idaho from where he received two Master's degrees. Mr. Douglas taught and coached in several areas of the U.S. including California, New York, Delaware and Maryland. He was assistant coach at the University of Idaho. He also taught English & History at CSD in Dorchester County and served as head coach of the track and field team. He is survived by his wife, Busaba Yip Douglas; son, Laird Douglas and wife Katherine Douglas; daughter, Nicole Rene' Douglas; and grandchildren, Liam and Gavin Douglas, and Aiden and Alexis Hayward; other survivors include, Cynthia Merrick, mother of his children; sister, Pamela Webster; brother, John Douglas; and many nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom; He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean McCarthy. A private ceremony will be held in Maryland at a later date. Dick was a unique and beautiful soul, a poet, a lover of life, and a gentle man. He was an artist, dancer and athlete. He ran "a great race" and now continues his journey, "the natural way".
