CAMBRIDGE - Ralph L. White, Jr., 73, of Cambridge passed away on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 at Mallard Bay Care Center. He was born on June 19, 1941 in Troy, North Carolina to the late Ralph L. and Vida Houser White. He graduated from Troy High School in 1959, the University of N.C. in 1963 and received his PhD in chemistry from Indiana University in 1967. After holding a post doctoral fellowship and a teaching post at the University of N.C., he worked for 27 years as a Medicinal Chemist for Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Norwich, N.Y., retiring in 1996 to Cambridge. He married the former Anne Hosch on September 14, 1968. Ralph was a lifelong golfer, a member of River Marsh Golf Course and Choptank River Golf Course and Event Center. He was a Life Master Bridge player directing the Choptank Duplicate Bridge Club in Cambridge and the Tred Avon Bridge Club in Easton for many years. For 17 years, he volunteered as a tax counselor at the Tax-Aide Center at the Dorchester County Library and enjoyed traveling, especially for scuba diving. Mr. White is survived by his wife, Anne White of Cambridge; two children, Katherine Simoes and husband Roberto of Romansville, Pa. and David White of Pasadena; four grandchildren, Luke White, Alexander Simoes, Rachael Simoes and Chloe Simoes; and a daughter in law, Tina Clouse-White. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James White. A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014 at Zion United Methodist Church with Pastor George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Rd, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
