CORONA, N.Y. - Phillip Lee Powell, 93, formerly of Easton, passed away at his home in Corona on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007.

He was the son of the late Samuel E. and Julia Taylor Powell, born in Easton, (Village of Chapel) on Dec. 1, 1913.

He was one of 13 children and the last surviving sibling at age 93. He was also the youngest.

The Powell family were long time members of Staten Chapel and John Wesley Methodist Church. Mr. Powell played piano and taught Sunday School in the church at Matthewstown.

He attended Chapel District, Matthewstown and Easton School. He joined CC Camp located on the Western Shore of Maryland.

In 1933, Mr. Powell established residence in Queens, N.Y. where he was gainfully employed. He was a truck driver for Sperry Gyroscope Co. in Lake Success (Great Neck, N.Y.) from 1940 until his retirement in 1977.

On Nov. 26, 1943, he was joined in Holy Matrimony, to the former Lucinda Roberts at Asbury UM Church in Easton by the Rev. C.W. Derrickson. They resided in Corona, N.Y. for 64 years.

Mr. Powell loved to travel with his wife to various places including Africa, Spain, Puerto Rico, Caribbean Islands and Canada. He enjoyed gardening, crossing flowers as a specialty. He was very artistic. He enjoyed being called by his nickname "Peanuts" given to him at a very early age.

He attended First Baptist Church in Corona, N.Y.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Lucinda Roberts Powell of Corona, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Gloria Roberts Wimberly and her husband, Herschel of Easton; seven nephews, Raymond Gardener (Alice) of Silver Spring, Howard Powell (Novella) of Hollis, N.Y., Harry Powell (Doris) of Easton, Dr. Hilliard Gardener (Leatha) of Hillsboro, Dr. Charles O'Neal Roberts of Forestville, Donald L. Cooper Sr. of Easton, and Bruce H. Roberts of Rockaway Beach, N.Y.; three nieces, Emma J. Holloway of Philadelphia, Pa., Jacqueline D. Bell (Donald) of Silver Spring, and Elsie Delores Jordan of Easton, and a number of great-nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, at Henry Funeral Home, P.A., 510 Washington St., Cambridge, where friends may call three hours prior to service.

Inurnment will be held privately at a later date.
