Pet food pantry opens, volunteers wanted by Humane Society of Somerset County

WESTOVER — The Humane Society of Somerset County will once again open its Pet Food Pantry Saturday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon.

This is for Somerset County residents only, and free for those with a SNAP card, otherwise it’s15 cents per pound. Donations will be accepted. The location is 29551 Fairmount Road.

The Humane Society of Somerset County’s goal is to give animals a second chance at life, rescuing the injured, sterilizing feral cats, and providing love to those in need.

It’s a “small but mighty team” that makes this big impact, and if you have a desire to help, you can join them. Many volunteers are nearing retirement and need younger members carry the torch.

There are varied volunteer needs, including:

  • Accounting & Bookkeeping;
  • Grant Writing and fundraising;
  • Pet Food Bank operations;
  • Animal Rescue & Shelter Management; and
  • Spay/Neuter & Trapping.
