CAMBRIDGE - Very quietly and peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, God in his infinite wisdom and mercy, gently closed the eyes of Our Beloved Ollie M. Dockins Thompson at New Port News Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ollie was born in Cambridge, on Feb. 11, 1932, to the late Sarah Lillie Virginia Dockins who taught her the love of God at an early age. Ollie was the devoted wife of James O. Thompson to whom she married on Feb. 8, 1958. They were classmates and they both attended St. Claire High School Cambridge, and graduated class of 1949. Ollie was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church of Cambridge. She always had a love for God and enjoyed being a member there. After having married James, who at the time made a career of the United States Air Force, she was able to travel many places in the United States. She enjoyed being stationed in the different places that she studied and read about. After her husband, James finished his tour of duty in the services; they made their home in Hampton, Va., where Ollie became a member and Associate Pastor of Little Zion Baptist Church. Ollie's passion and favorite pastime was reading her Bible and listening to Christian stations of the radio as well as watching Christian Television Programs. Ollie was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Dockins; five sisters, Mary Jackson, Mable Hayward, Esther Cornish, Myrtle Matthews and Floretta Williams. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, James O. Thompson of Hampton, Va.; one sister, Rev. Blanche Bailey of Cambridge; a sister-in-law, Virginia Dockins of Cambridge; a special niece "whom was raised like a sister" Barbara Sampson of Cambridge; her godson, Gregory Sampson of Cambridge; her extended family, Anthony Marsh whom was like a son and his parents Norman and Carolyn Marsh of Hampton, Va., and Mr. and Mrs. David Wilson of Hampton, Va., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Little Zion Baptist Church 1824 W. Queen Street Hampton, Va. and Saturday at 11 a.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church on Pine Street Cambridge, with a one hour viewing prior to both services. Burial will be in Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock. Arrangements by Bennie Smith Funeral Home Exmore, Va. and Hurlock.
