During each service there is special music. Preaching is by the Rev. Jim Riley, pastor of Immanuel United Methodist Church, and Pam Eskridge is the organist.
A congregation first met at what was the Miles Meeting House in the 1780s, renaming it St. Peter’s in 1813. The present sanctuary dates to the 1850s but underwent substantial alterations to the Gothic Revival style in 1901, according to architectural historian, Paul Touart. The sanctuary is air-conditioned and everyone is welcome to attend the weekly services through August.
Of special interest during this nation’s 250th anniversary is the grave in the church cemetery of Revolutionary War Capt. Henry Miles (1782-1795). Originally buried in an overgrown plot on a Hopewell farm it was moved to St. Peter’s in 1976 and in 1992 received the marker signifying his role as a patriot from members of the Capt. John Smoot Chapter Sons of the American Revolution.
