Minnie Ann Stanley, 86

SMITHVILLE - Minnie Ann Stanley, departed this life Saturday, July 4, 2009, in Easton Memorial Hospital, Easton, after a sudden illness. She was 86. Mrs. Stanley was born March 22, 1923 in Dorchester County, and was educated in the Dorchester County School System. Mrs. Stanley worked for 43 years at the JM Clayton Seafood Company in Cambridge, and also at the Simmons Canning Factory in Madison. Mrs. Stanley was a devoted member of the Malone United Methodist Church in Madison, which later became part of the New Revived United Methodist Church in Smithville. She was a member of the Singing and Praying Band, United Methodist Women, the Charge Choir, and she served as Treasurer for the St. Paul-Malone Cemetery Committee. She was also a Lay Speaker until she became ill in earlier years. Minnie Stanley was a wonderful caregiver to many people, both family and friends. Her loving and compassionate ways drew many people to her through the years, who became loyal and caring friends. She loved traveling with her husband, Bernard, who was a member of the Wilson Singers. Mrs. Stanley was a wonderful cook and loved to prepare meals and has fed many, many people through the years. Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Asbury Opher Shaw of Annapolis. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bernard Stanley of Smithville; a loving sister, Ann Shaw of Charleston, S.C.; a nephew, who she doted on, Cameron Hicks of Greensboro, N.C.; her aunt, Katherine Marine of Christ Rock; her sister-in-law, Florence Wilson of Smithville; two devoted cousins, Nathaniel and Janie Keene, who cared for her to the end; and host of other family and friends, including her friend, Bernard Page, who will sorely miss her. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2009 at New Revived UM Church (Smithville), with a viewing two hours prior to the services. Interment in Malone Cemetery (Madison).
