Mildred Spedden Seward

CAMBRIDGE - Mildred Spedden Seward, 88, of Cambridge, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011, at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Hudson on Nov. 4, 1922, and was a daughter of the late Walter B. and Bertie Hubbard Spedden. Mrs. Seward graduated from Cambridge High School class of 1939. On June 7, 1941, she married Harvey E. Seward. He passed away on Feb. 16, 1998. She worked for Dorset Laundry as a secretary and a bookkeeper. Mrs. Seward also co-owned and operated Mar B Shop with her sister Mary Frances Warfield from 1965 until 1990. She was a member of Beckwith United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and she was active in the United Methodist Women. Mrs. Seward was also a member of the Neck District Volunteer Fire Company. She is survived by a sister, Mary Frances Warfield of Cambridge; two brothers, Rev. Harold P. Spedden and wife Elaine of Wilmington, Del., and Maurice F. Spedden and wife Arlene of Chester, Md.; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Hurley of Texas; a devoted friend, Darcy McCollister; many nieces and nephews; two special caregivers, Mickey Dail and Liva DeCeasare; and her precious cat, Goldie. Besides her parents, Mrs. Seward was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy S. Hall. Pallbearers were Bill Brooks, Richard Meekins, Larry Dail, Gary Spedden, Ron Spedden and Ron Warfield. A funeral service was held on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at 11 a.m., at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Burial followed at Dorchester Memorial Park.
