Air traffic control calamity disrupting hundreds of US flights spotlights the aging system
SUMMARY: Communications failures that snarled U.S. air traffic Monday highlight the aging systems controllers rely on to guide roughly 45,000 flights a day. Congress handed the Federal Aviation Administration $12.5 billion last year to overhaul technology after the deadliest American plane crash in more than two decades happened in January. The same Philadelphia facility that lost its primary and backup data lines Monday also experienced a series of brief radar outages last spring that disrupted flights at Newark Airport. Similar communications outages in Minneapolis and Dallas have interfered with flights over the past year. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says Monday’s disruptions reinforce why he’s asking Congress for $20 billion more to fix U.S. air traffic control.

New York, California sue to block Trump administration deals canceling offshore wind projects
SUMMARY: Democratic attorneys general from California and New York are suing the Trump administration over its plans to buy back offshore wind leases as it seeks to discourage expansion of wind energy in favor of fossil fuels. California Attorney General Rob Bonta said he is suing over removal of a project off his state’s coast planned by Chicago-based Invenergy. The Trump administration said in June that it’s buying back the company’s U.S. offshore wind leases for four wind projects on the East and West coasts. New York Attorney General Letitia James, meanwhile, led seven states in suits seeking to block the Invenergy deal and another proposal with Bluepoint Wind, which agreed in April to end a wind farm under development off the New York and New Jersey coast.

Giants QB Jaxson Dart is expected to have season-ending knee surgery, AP source says
SUMMARY: New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart is expected to have season-ending surgery on his left knee, according to a person familiar with the injury. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Wednesday because the team hadn't announced Dart's status. Dart was injured on the first drive Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams when his left leg bent awkwardly as he was hit by two defenders. Losing the 23-year-old face of the franchise to a long-term injury would be a significant blow in coach John Harbaugh's first season in charge.

Koby Howard is emerging as a serious threat for No. 13 Penn State with Wisconsin up next
SUMMARY: As Rocco Becht waited for his surgically repaired shoulder to heal during winter workouts, the quarterback’s eyes were often glued to his new teammate wearing No. 6. It didn’t take long for Becht to strike up a friendship with James Franklin era holdover Koby Howard. Once Becht could start throwing again, the veteran found immediate chemistry with the shifty speedster who played sparingly for the Nittany Lions as a freshman. Howard has proved his worth with a team-leading 12 catches for 344 yards through three games.

Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent placed in the NFL concussion protocol, AP source says
SUMMARY: Chicago Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent has been placed in the NFL concussion protocol, according to a person familiar with the situation, adding another wrinkle to the team’s plans for Monday night’s game against Philadelphia. The person confirmed Bagent’s status to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Bears hadn’t released their first injury report of the week. Bagent was expected to practice with Chicago’s starters after Caleb Williams left Sunday’s 9-3 loss to Minnesota with a right hamstring injury. If Williams and Bagent are unable to play Monday night, the Bears likely would turn to Case Keenum.
