Man accused of ties to bin Laden and tortured after 9/11 has 20-year Guantanamo detention reviewed
SUMMARY: A man initially accused of being a high-profile al-Qaida figure and who was tortured in CIA custody has appeared at a hearing to review his detention. Abu Zubaydah has been held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for 20 years without charges. A government official said Thursday that Zubaydah had “probably” served as one of Osama bin Laden’s most trusted facilitators. Zubaydah was detained after 9/11 and subjected to torture in CIA black sites. His lawyers say he was never in al-Qaida, but they acknowledge he knew bin Laden. They say Zubaydah is no longer a security risk and should be approved for transfer out of Guantanamo.

A truck driver built a model of NYC with over 800,000 structures for fun. Now it's a museum exhibit

Now, Joe Macken’s sprawling balsa wood and foam board creation is on display at the Museum of the City of New York. The immense model is 50 feet long and nearly 30 feet wide, covering all five boroughs, parts of New Jersey and suburban Long Island. More than 800,000 balsa wood structures are laid out in street-level detail across more than 300 large foam boards like interconnecting puzzle pieces. The exhibit runs through Oct. 12.

After a poor 2025 at home, the Ravens try to turn the page when they host New Orleans
SUMMARY: Baltimore plays its home opener Sunday against New Orleans. It’ll be the second straight road game for the Saints, who fell in overtime to Detroit last weekend. The Ravens opened with a win at Indianapolis. Baltimore is trying to rebound after the team went 3-6 at home last season. That was the worst mark in franchise history. Both teams showed they could put up points in Week 1, but Baltimore is now dealing with injuries to receiver Zay Flowers, tackle Ronnie Stanley and guard John Simpson. All three missed practice time this week.

Christian Parker is on to Week 2 after a rough debut as defensive coordinator of the Cowboys
SUMMARY: Christian Parker has been measured and reserved in his reaction to a rough debut as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. The defense looked just as bad as a year ago in a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants. Parker also had a tense exchange with rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham show up on social media. The 34-year-old says his defense isn't making excuses or trying to act like the poor performance never happened. He says the focus is on fixing the numerous mistakes going into Sunday's home opener against Washington.

The NBA champions put individual game tickets for the 2026-27 season on sale this week. The get-in price for the Oct. 20 season opener against Philadelphia was more than $1,000. The team said Thursday they are rolling back to last year’s prices plus an average increase of 12%. Jets' Frank Reich used a 5-tight end look he says no one has seen in the NFL for at least 20 years
SUMMARY: Frank Reich added a unique twist to the New York Jets' offense by using five tight ends in a single play. This unusual strategy was seen last Sunday during the Jets' 23-10 win against Tennessee. The Jets used a rarely seen "05 personnel" package, which team analytics couldn't find evidence of use by any teams in the past 20 years. Coach Aaron Glenn praised the tight ends as a key weapon. The move highlights Reich's creativity and the versatility of players such as rookie Kenyon Sadiq, who scored on a run in his debut.

US Olympic gold medal-winners asking for trades shakes up the NHL landscape
SUMMARY: Brady Tkachuk asked for a trade out of Ottawa and wound up in Florida. Connor Hellebuyck could soon be joining him in the U.S. after requesting out of Winnipeg. Dylan Larkin also asked for a trade from Detroit, while Zach Werenski remains in Columbus after a move he wanted failed to materialize. It is somewhat of a coincidence that all of them won Olympic gold with the U.S. and now want a change of scenery, though they understand what especially wanting out of Canada looks like from the outside.

A new stage for '¡GOOOOL!': Andrés Cantor’s next move is to Netflix for Women's World Cup
SUMMARY: Andrés Cantor and his iconic “¡GOOOOL!” call will be part of Netflix’s coverage of next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
