FBN--Ravens-Analysis

Baltimore's offense looked terrific in the opener, but injuries at wide receiver are concerning

SUMMARY: Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens amassed 506 total yards in the season opener, making Jesse Minter a winner in his head coaching debut. In a 41-23 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, Jackson threw for 324 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a score. He looked as spry as Baltimore had hoped after an injury-plagued 2025. The only real downers for the Ravens were a slew of offensive line penalties and two potentially problematic injuries to the receiving corps. Zay Flowers had five catches for 150 yards and a touchdown before leaving because of hamstring issues. Rookie Ja’Kobi Lane left with a wrist injury.

FBN--Commanders Analysis

Pass protection and chunk plays hurt the Commanders, who still came close to an upset in Philly

SUMMARY: As expected, Jayden Daniels had to spend a lot of time in the season opener navigating a pass rush that Washington struggled to block. Even so, the Commanders had a real shot to pull off an upset in Philadelphia. A missed 2-point conversion with 1:01 remaining sent Washington to a 24-22 loss on Sunday. While the Commanders made enough mistakes to deserve their fate, the performances of Daniels and the defense offered some hope. But the Commanders had only one play of over 20 yards. The Eagles had five.

FBN--Saints-Analysis

Saints enter Week 2 emboldened by their dramatic near comeback in Detroit

SUMMARY: The New Orleans Saints are moving on to Week 2 sounding more emboldened than disappointed by their season-opening loss to Detroit. Saints veteran safety Justin Reid says his team is “in a good place” after Sunday's 31-30 overtime loss to the Lions. After erasing a three-touchdown deficit in the second half, the Saints matched the Lions’ touchdown in overtime and tried to win the game with a 2-point conversion that failed when second-year quarterback Tyler Shough’s pass fell incomplete. Saints second-year coach Kellen Moore says his players deserve credit for “sticking with it." The Saints are now preparing for another big challenge on the road this weekend, when they visit a Baltimore team coming off a 41-23 victory over Indianapolis.

BBO--Mets-Williams

Devin Williams hopes to be nearing return for Mets

SUMMARY: Devin Williams, sidelined with a strained right shoulder since Aug. 8, is scheduled to face hitters Thursday and hopes to return to the New York Mets’ bullpen this weekend. Williams would like to avoid a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment. Williams, who signed a $51 million, three-year deal in December shortly before incumbent closer Edwin Díaz left for the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent, is 3-2 with a 4.66 ERA and 16 saves in 19 chances this season

BBO--Orioles-Mets

Alonso hitless in return to Queens but Henderson's homer eliminates Mets as Orioles win 2-1

SUMMARY: Pete Alonso went hitless in his return to Citi Field but Gunnar Henderson launched a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning that lifted the Baltimore Orioles to a 2-1 win over the New York Mets. Henderson went deep against reliever Dedniel Núñez immediately after Alonso struck out, helping the Orioles pull within three games of Cleveland for the last American League wild card. Heston Kjerstad had an RBI double in the second. A.J. Ewing homered for the Mets, who were eliminated from playoff contention and assured they won’t have a winning season after starting the year with a record payroll of $358.4 million.

BBO--Mets-Alonso

Pete Alonso receives thunderous ovations from Mets fans in return to Citi Field with Orioles

SUMMARY: Pete Alonso is still chasing his 300th career home run after making his first visit to Citi Field as an opposing player. He certanly knows how New York Mets fans feel about him, though. They made sure of that Monday night — over and over and over again. Alonso went hitless for the Baltimore Orioles during their 2-1 win that eliminated the Mets from playoff contention, but a crowd of 35,800 gave the popular slugger a standing ovation and chanted his name before each of his four plate appearances. Shortly before first pitch, the Mets aired a nearly two-minute video paying tribute to Alonso, who hit a franchise-record 264 homers and made five All-Star teams over seven seasons with the club.

HKN--Deadline Deals

NHL teams rush to sign players to eight-year contracts before the new CBA deadline

SUMMARY: NHL teams are rushing to re-sign players to eight-year contracts while they still can, before midnight when the new collective bargaining agreement kicks in and sets a new ceiling of seven years. Washington locked up Ryan Leonard for $84 million and Ottawa signed Drake Batherson for $86 million, the richest contract in franchise history. Buffalo did the same with 22-year-old center Noah Ostlund, who has played just 71 games in the league. Players signing maximum-length extensions this summer will be under contract through 2035.

FBN--Jets Analysis

Jets' revamped offense with quarterback Geno Smith and coordinator Frank Reich shows it can be solid

SUMMARY: Geno Smith and the New York Jets kicked off their season with an impressive 23-10 win over the Titans in Tennessee that was helped by an efficient and productive offense. That comes after the Jets had one of the league's worst offenses last year. New York made significant offseason changes, including acquiring Smith from Las Vegas and hiring Frank Reich as offensive coordinator. Smith completed 19 of 24 passes for 215 yards, with no interceptions or sacks. The Jets' running game was strong, with Breece Hall rushing for 102 yards and a touchdown. The offensive line excelled, keeping Smith protected.

US--Yankee Stadium-Legionella Bacteria

New York Yankees say Legionella bacteria found in stadium cooling tower not linked to outbreak

SUMMARY: Bacteria that cause Legionnaires' disease have been found in a Yankee Stadium cooling tower in New York City. Health officials say it's one of 10 towers that tested positive for Legionella bacteria amid 10 recent cases of the disease in the Bronx, including one death. The city Health Department said Sunday that more tests are being conducted to determine if the bacteria are live. Only live bacteria can cause Legionnaires' disease. The Yankees say none of the current cases has been linked to the stadium and the stadium cooling tower was cleaned Sunday. Legionnaires' disease is a form of pneumonia and is treatable, but can be fatal.

ENT--Music-Macklemore-Ed Sheeran

Macklemore is dropped from Ed Sheeran's tour over pro-Palestinian comments onstage

SUMMARY: Macklemore says he has been dropped from Ed Sheeran’s Loop tour following pro-Palestinian comments he made onstage earlier this month at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. The Grammy winner said on Instagram Monday that several U.S. venues told the promoter that they would prohibit the “Thrift Store” rapper from performing as Sheeran’s opening act. As a result, he wrote, Sheeran’s team decided to remove him from the stadium tour, despite the fact that Macklemore has been making similar comments about the plight of Palestinians for years. Sheeran hasn't commented.

FBN--Giants Analysis

Jaxson Dart and Isaiah Likely show off their chemistry in Giants' Week 1 win

SUMMARY: Isaiah Likely was by far Jaxson Dart's most targeted receiver throughout New York Giants training camp. That chemistry was on full display in their season-opening victory against Dallas. Dart completed all eight passes he threw to Likely for 78 yards and two touchdowns. The tight end's arrival and the return of Malik Nabers from injury gives the offense two potential playmakers to mix with coach John Harbaugh's run-focused approach. Nabers thinks he and Likely being on the field together can level things out for Dart in his second year in the NFL.

FBC--Big Ten-Coaching Experience

Can a Big Ten coach thrive without Power Four experience? UCLA's Bob Chesney offers a test case

SUMMARY: One look at the newest members of the Big Ten’s head coaching fraternity reveals two distinct schools of thought regarding hiring strategies. Michigan, Michigan State and Penn State chose coaches with at least a decade of Power Four head coaching experience. UCLA went in a different direction. The contrasting approaches show a range of opinions on how much experience matters. Nebraska's Matt Rhule believes schools may be more concerned about what players a new coach can bring with him. Indiana coach Curt Cignetti orchestrated his stunning turnaround with help from 13 of his former James Madison players.

FBN--Titans-Analysis

A new coach, a changed roster, and the same result: Titans stumble in opening their season

SUMMARY: New Tennessee coach Robert Saleh watched the tape of the Titans in their first game with a new coaching staff and had a sharp critique Monday. His take included the Titans not being good in any facet of the game and needing to be better. That was obvious to anyone watching the Titans lose a sixth straight season opener since 2020 with Saleh the third different coach in that span. They never led in a 23-10 loss to the New York Jets, who also went 3-14 last season. Saleh says the Titans have to acknowledge they have a long way to go.

FBN--Eagles Analysis

Eagles' new offense gets a passing grade after Week 1, but there's still work to be done

SUMMARY: The Eagles hired new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion in part to bring explosive plays back to Philadelphia’s offense. After Sunday’s 24-22 season-opening victory over Washington, give Mannion and the Eagles a passing grade — but definitely not a perfect one. Jalen Hurts had three completions of 30 or more yards, and the Eagles had a pair of runs for more than 20 yards to help them improve to 6-0 in openers under head coach Nick Sirianni and Hurts. Sirianni said, “I thought we were able to be explosive."

FBN--Steelers-Analysis

McCarthy stays vague as Steelers sit Joey Porter Jr. amid back rehab, contract limbo

SUMMARY: Mike McCarthy's first win as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers came against the backdrop of cornerback Joey Porter's absence. McCarthy opted to make Porter inactive for a season-opening victory over Atlanta, citing a back issue that forced Porter to miss a chunk of training camp. The decision came as a deadline for Porter to sign a long-term deal to remain in Pittsburgh came and went without an agreement. McCarthy said he is hopeful Porter will take a step forward in practice this week. The Steelers will take a step up in class in Week 2 when they visit defending AFC champion New England.
