AP Decision Notes: What to expect in Maryland’s state primary
SUMMARY: Maryland Gov. Wes Moore seeks the Democratic nomination for a second term in Tuesday’s primary for federal, state and local offices. The Democratic ticket will face the winners of a nine-way Republican primary field that includes former state Del. Dan Cox, who lost to Moore in the 2022 general election for governor. In the 5th Congressional District, 24 contenders seek the Democratic nomination to replace former Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer. In the 6th Congressional District, U.S. Rep. April McClain Delaney faces a Democratic primary challenge from former U.S. Rep. David Trone.

After missing his putt on the 18th hole, Sam Burns comes up one shot short at the US Open
SUMMARY: Sam Burns came close on multiple occasions to tying Wyndham Clark in the final round of the U.S. Open. A razor-thin near-miss on a birdie putt on the 18th hole became the most painful. Shooting a 67 got him to 3 under for the tournament sent him into the clubhouse one stroke back of Clark. A year after leading the U.S. Open at Oakmont after two rounds, playing in the final group and falling apart with a rain-addled 78, Burns watched as Clark birdied No. 16, bogeyed 17 and two-putted in on 18 to win by the single shot Burns did not make down the stretch.

Keith Mitchell goes from wild start to first player with 4 straight even-par rounds at a US Open
SUMMARY: Keith Mitchell’s U.S. Open started with a wild ride and ended with historic consistency. And with a spot in next year’s Masters. Mitchell shot his fourth straight 70 on Sunday, becoming the first player in U.S. Open history to have four rounds of even par. He tied for fourth, clinching an invitation to next year’s first major. He had stumbled to a 6-over 41 in his opening nine holes. He then put up a 29 on his second, becoming the first player in a U.S. Open to post a score in the 40s on nine holes, and follow that with a score in the 20s on the next nine.

Scheffler gets some help from Clark, but can't take advantage at the US Open
SUMMARY: Scottie Scheffler got the crack in Wyndham Clark’s game that might have kickstarted his own run at completing the career Grand Slam. But the world's top-ranked never did the other part — namely, applying any pressure of his own Clark, who left the door open at the U.S. Open before sneaking away with the win. While Clark hung on to capture his second title in four years in the toughest test in golf, Scheffler finished tied for fourth. He actually beat Clark by two shots in their final-pairing showdown, but came in trailing by six.

For Niemann, it's 71 solid holes, one thrown club and a return trip for next year's US Open
SUMMARY: The U.S. Open summary for Joaquin Niemann looks like this: 71 holes of solid golf, one really bad one, a thrown club, a two-shot penalty and the willpower to not spend too much time wondering what might have been. Niemann shot 4-under 66 to finish the tournament at 1-over 281. He finished tied for seventh, which means he gets an invite back to the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach next year. Not bad for a player who carded an 11 in the first round. That was nine shots on the par-4 sixth, then a two-shot penalty for hurling his club in frustration.

Wyndham Clark avoids record collapse and holds on to win the US Open
SUMMARY: Wyndham Clark is the U.S. Open champion and it was harder work than he ever imagined. He was on the edge of all day of the greatest collapse in U.S. Open history because no one had ever lost a six-shot lead in this championship. Clark's lead was down to one after five holes. But he held his nerve against Sam Burns and a Shinnecock Hills gallery that wanted anyone but him to win. Clark made a huge birdie on the 16th to take a two-shot lead. He two-putted from 50 feet for par to win his second Open title.

Wyndham Clark quiets a US Open crowd that rooted for him to lose
SUMMARY: Wyndham Clark heard it all day from the Shinnecock Hills crowd. Fans shouted for his golf ball to go in the bunker and the rough. One was ejected after yelling: “Don’t choke, Wyndham!” He quieted them with a 52-foot putt to tap-in range for his second U.S. Open title in four years, avoiding the worst collapse in tournament history after his six-stroke lead dwindled to one. New York loves a winner, but the one these fans really wanted to see on Sunday was Scottie Scheffler, who was chasing the career Grand Slam, or Sam Burns, who lost by a stroke. Not Clark.

Senegal coach isn't saying how much he'll change against Norway at the World Cup
SUMMARY: Senegal coach Pape Thiaw is not revealing how many changes he might make for his team's second group play game at the World Cup against Norway on Monday night. Senegal is coming off losing its opener to France 3-1 and would be in a difficult spot if it fails to beat or tie Norway. That is easier said than done facing high-scoring Erling Haaland, who had two goals in a 4-1 rout of Iraq. Norway would advance to the round of 32 with a victory in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

At US Open, Wyndham Clark proves he doesn't have to be perfect to be a winner
SUMMARY: Long before he smashed the locker, won the trophies or had any inkling he’d play in a U.S. Open one day, golf for Wyndham Clark was a test of patience, will and temperament. So, maybe it’s only right that Clark’s latest triumph came in front of a New York crowd that, for the most part, came out to Long Island to watch him fail. Clark’s second U.S. Open win will be remembered for the cheers when he missed shots, and for a tap-in putt on the 18th green that was greeted with an awkward dribble of applause. None of that seemed to bother him, as he held on for a one-shot victory over Sam Burns.

Gonzalez and Reynolds homer as the Pirates hold off the Rockies 8-6
SUMMARY: Nick Gonzalez and Bryan Reynolds homered to help the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Colorado Rockies 8-6 on Sunday. Gonzalez and Reynolds finished with two hits each to help Pittsburgh salvage the finale of the three-game series in what could have been a sweep. The Pirates lost the first two games despite having the tying and winning runs on second and third with one out in the ninth in both games. Pittsburgh starter Jared Jones left the game after he was struck on the right elbow on a comebacker to end the third inning. The ball deflected to Gonzalez at third, who threw out TJ Rumfield. The Pirates announced initial tests on the elbow were negative. Yohan Ramirez (5-2) took over in the fourth and tossed two scoreless innings.
