Biden sues Justice Department to stop release of audio and transcripts tied to special counsel probe
SUMMARY: Joe Biden has sued the Justice Department in an effort to block the release of audio recordings and transcripts of the former president’s interview with a ghostwriter. The files had been obtained by the special counsel who investigated Biden's handling of classified documents. Biden’s lawyers said in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Washington’s federal court that the Justice Department plans to release the files to Congress and a conservative group. The department had previously argued that they were exempt from disclosure under the public records law. Biden’s lawyers argued that the disclosure would “constitute an unwarranted invasion of President Biden’s privacy.”

Trump wraps up 3-hour medical visit to Walter Reed and declares 'Everything checked out PERFECTLY'
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump has wrapped up a three-hour visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for what the White House describes as preventive medical and dental exams. In a social media post after Tuesday's visit, the 79-year-old Trump said, “Everything checked out PERFECTLY.” It was Trump's fourth publicly disclosed medical exam since returning to office 16 months ago. The tradition of the presidential physical goes back decades and offers a glimpse of the chief's fitness — though the White House decides what to reveal. Trump has recently talked about how good he feels, even as he jokes about his fondness for fast food and his minimal exercise regimen.

Takeaways from AP investigation that found 'alarming' spike in suicide deaths of ICE detainees
SUMMARY: Detainees in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement are taking their own lives at a pace that's unprecedented in the agency’s two-decade history, an Associated Press Investigation has found. The investigation revealed that at least 10 ICE detainees have died by suicide since President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025. That includes seven deaths since October, already the most in one fiscal year. The increased pace of suicides far exceeds the growth in ICE’s detainee population. The deaths occurred at detention facilities operated by private contractors and local jails run by sheriffs. All were men, and nine of the 10 were Hispanic.

ICE detainees are dying by suicide at an 'alarming' rate, an AP investigation finds
SUMMARY: Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees are taking their own lives at a pace that’s unprecedented in the agency’s two-decade history, highlighting what experts call failures in care and oversight. An Associated Press investigation finds that at least 10 ICE detainees have died by suicide since President Donald Trump returned to office in January 2025 and ordered ICE to increase arrests and deportations. That includes seven deaths since October, already the most in one fiscal year with several months remaining. The increased pace of suicides exceeds the growth in ICE’s detainee population. The deaths happened at detention facilities operated by private contractors and local jails run by sheriffs. All were men, and most were Hispanic.

SUMMARY: Juan Soto, A.J. Minter and Jared Young returned to the New York Mets on Tuesday, when the last-place club’s depth was challenged again by the loss of outfielder Tyrone Taylor to the 10-day injured list due to a right hip flexor strain. World Cup transit sticker shock hits fans with tickets to matches in some US host cities
SUMMARY: Fans heading to the World Cup in the U.S. are facing a new source of sticker shock: mass transit. In New Jersey and Massachusetts, some train fares tied to matches will cost fans far more than normal NFL gameday trips. That is drawing criticism from international fans used to free transit at past World Cups. Some supporters are now organizing their own transportation to the stadiums. A group of Scottish fans booked school buses to Scotland matches near Boston for about half the official price. Transit experts say the high costs could further hurt the United States' image with foreign visitors.

Penguins re-sign star forward Evgeni Malkin to a 1-year deal
SUMMARY: Evgeni Malkin is staying in Pittsburgh. The Penguins have re-signed the franchise icon to a one-year, $5.5 million deal. Malkin, who turns 40 in August, was due to become a free agent on July 1 but had expressed repeatedly a desire to stay. General Manager Kyle Dubas had been noncommittal but confirmed the team's interest in keeping Malkin, though he said recently the club would "love" to have him back. The signing means Malkin, Sidney Crosby, and Kris Letang will continue their historic partnership. All three are now under contract for a record 21st season together.

The Blue Wave from tiny Curaçao is making World Cup history
SUMMARY: Curaçao has already crafted a story like none other in World Cup history. The tiny autonomous territory of about 156,000 residents is now the smallest, both in terms of population and land mass, to make it to soccer’s biggest stage. And if that wasn’t enough, it's doing so under a coach in Dick Advocaat who, at 78, is about to become the oldest the tournament has ever seen. They know what the world is probably thinking: Their country is too small, their coach is too old, they don’t have a chance. They heard all that through the qualifying process as well — and here they are.
