Trump administration cuts nearly $8B in clean energy projects in states that backed Harris

SUMMARY: The Trump administration has announced the cancellation of $7.6 billion intended for clean energy projects across 16 states. Each of those are states where both senators voted against the Republican bill to keep the federal government open. The cuts likely will affect battery plants, hydrogen technology projects and more. The announcement Thursday by the Energy Department came after the Republican funding bill couldn't muster enough votes to pass in the Senate, initiating a federal government shutdown. The Trump administration says the projects do not align with national energy needs, while critics argue the move is politically motivated and could raise energy costs and threaten thousands of jobs.

Constellation Energy to spend $340M to improve water quality at Maryland's Conowingo Dam

SUMMARY: Constellation Energy has agreed to spend more than $340 million to improve water quality from the Conowingo Dam that flows into the Susquehanna River and eventually ends up in the Chesapeake Bay. The agreement announced Thursday clears the way for the re-licensing and continued operation of the dam’s hydroelectric facility on the Susquehanna, which is the largest source of renewable energy in Maryland. The agreement marks an end to wrangling over who is responsible for addressing pollution in sediment that gets stuck in the dam and ends up being released downstream and into the bay.

FBN--Ravens-Injuries

Still no Lamar Jackson, but Nate Wiggins and Ronnie Stanley return to practice for the Ravens

SUMMARY: Offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley and cornerback Nate Wiggins were back at practice for the Baltimore Ravens, but star quarterback Lamar Jackson and safety Kyle Hamilton were absent during the portion open to reporters. Hamilton did not seem injured during last weekend’s loss at Kansas City, but he showed up on Wednesday’s injury report as limited in that day’s practice because of a groin issue. He was not on the field early in Thursday’s session. Neither were linebacker Roquan Smith and cornerback Marlon Humphrey. The returns of Stanley and Wiggins were encouraging, however, for a depleted Baltimore team that needs all the healthy players it can find this weekend against Houston.

Houston has lost 6 straight to Baltimore, but Lamar Jackson may not be available this week

SUMMARY: Baltimore has won six in a row in its series with Houston, but star quarterback Lamar Jackson might not be available for the Ravens when they host the Texans this weekend. Houston has lost three times to Baltimore since the start of the 2023 season, and the Texans didn’t score an offensive TD in any of those games. That trend may not continue either. The Ravens are depleted by injuries on defense and have allowed 133 points in four games.

Air Force-Navy football game is still on despite government shutdown

SUMMARY: The Air Force-Navy football game is set to proceed as planned despite the government shutdown. The Naval Academy Athletic Association, a nonprofit, operates independently, limiting the shutdown's impact on Navy's teams and the game Saturday. Navy said all games will be played, though a spokesman notes that some military coaches are affected. Air Force sports information director Troy Garnhart, a civilian, is unable to work due to the shutdown. Air Force won't stream home athletic events, and updates will be delayed. Despite this, Air Force Academy confirms all intercollegiate events will continue as scheduled.

Chargers host Commanders as top rookie rushers Hampton and Croskey-Merritt match up

SUMMARY: The Los Angeles Chargers will host the Washington Commanders on Sunday as both teams look to bounce back from disappointing Week 4 losses. The Chargers' undefeated start ended with a 21-18 defeat at the New York Giants after struggling to stop the run. The Commanders didn't have starting QB Jayden Daniels because of a knee injury as they fell 34-27 at the Atlanta Falcons. The game features two of the top rookie running backs in the NFL in the Chargers' Omarion Hampton and Jacory “Bill” Croskey-Merritt for the Commanders.

Terry McLaurin will miss a second straight game for the Commanders with a quad injury

SUMMARY: The Washington Commanders have ruled wide receiver Terry McLaurin out for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. The team announced Thursday that McLaurin, receiver Noah Brown and guard Sam Cosmi would not travel to Los Angeles. McLaurin injured his quadriceps muscle in Week 3 against Las Vegas and did not play in last weekend’s loss at Atlanta. It’s still been a positive week of preparation for the Commanders. Star quarterback Jayden Daniels returned to practice Wednesday and said he plans to play Sunday. McLaurin missed training camp while negotiating a new contract. HKN--Better With Age

From Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin to Brad Marchand, hockey is becoming a sport for old men

SUMMARY: Sidney Crosby was a point-a-game producer at 37. Brad Marchand scored six goals in the Stanley Cup Final at the same age, when 40-year-old Corey Perry was also one of the best players in the series. Alex Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky’s career goals record at 39. Thanks to changes in sports science, training and technology over the past two decades, the NHL’s window for stars to remain in their prime seems longer. FBN--Texans-Ravens Preview

Ravens have shut down the Texans recently. But now Baltimore's defense is depleted

SUMMARY: Baltimore and Houston are both 1-3, which adds plenty of urgency to their matchup Sunday. The Ravens had to face Buffalo, Detroit and Kansas City already, so their record wouldn’t be worth panicking over — if they were still at full strength. But they are far from it. The Ravens are decimated by injuries and have had few answers for the offensive stars they’ve gone up against already this season. Baltimore has allowed 133 points in four games. The situations has reached a point where Lamar Jackson’s possible absence is far from the Ravens’ only concern as they prepare to host Houston.

Cowboys will try to bounce back from disappointing tie last week when they face the winless Jets

SUMMARY: The Dallas Cowboys are set to face the New York Jets on Sunday. Dallas has a 1-2-1 record, while the Jets are 0-4. Dallas tied with the Packers last week, while the Jets lost to the Dolphins. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott leads the NFL in passing yards and completions. The Jets' defense has struggled, especially in pass coverage. Key players to watch include Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens and Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson. The 24-year-old rookie pitched eight overpowering innings with 12 strikeouts and no walks as New York beat Boston 4-0, advancing to the Division Series against Toronto. Schlittler, who grew up a Red Sox fan in Massachusetts, prepared by speaking with Yankees great Andy Pettitte. Ryan McMahon flips head over heels into Red Sox dugout to make highlight-reel catch for Yankees

SUMMARY: Ryan McMahon looked up and saw Jarren Duran’s foul popup veering toward the Boston bench. Without hesitation, the New York Yankees third baseman raced over. As he made a running catch, McMahon hit the padded railing and flipped head over heels into the Red Sox dugout, crashing to the ground while hanging onto the ball. McMahon’s courageous catch in the eighth inning Thursday night helped New York close out a 4-0 win over Boston in the deciding Game 3 of their AL Wild Card Series, advancing the Yankees to a best-of-five Division Series against Toronto. Schottenheimer turned down chances to follow in the footsteps of his late father, Marty Schottenheimer. He didn't think he was ready.
