US--Trump-Judges-Sued

Trump administration's lawsuit against all of Maryland's federal judges meets skepticism in court

SUMMARY: A judge is considering why it was necessary for the Trump administration to sue Maryland's entire federal bench over an order stopping the immediate deportation of immigrants challenging their removals. U.S. District Judge Thomas Cullen hasn't issued a ruling in the case, but he expressed skepticism about the administration's extraordinary legal maneuver during a hearing Wednesday in federal court in Baltimore. Cullen serves in the Western District of Virginia, but he was tapped to oversee the case because all of Maryland’s 15 federal judges are named as defendants. The Justice Department says the automatic pause on deportations impedes President Donald Trump's authority to enforce immigration laws.

US--DC-Federal Intervention

DC residents protest as White House says federal agents will be on patrol 24/7

SUMMARY: Residents in one Washington, D.C., neighborhood lined up to protest the increased police presence after the White House said the number of National Guard troops in the nation’s capital would ramp up and federal officers would be on the streets around the clock. After law enforcement set up a vehicle checkpoint Wednesday along the busy 14th Street Northwest corridor, hecklers shouted, “Go home, fascists” and “Get off our streets.” Some protesters stood at the intersection before the checkpoint and urged drivers to turn away from it. The action intensified a few days after President Donald Trump’s unprecedented announcement that his administration would take over the city’s police department for at least a month.

US--Trump-District of Columbia-Homeless

DC's homeless pack up as sweeps are expected. What we know about Trump's plan to clear encampments

SUMMARY: Some of the District of Columbia’s homeless residents are packing their belongings before an expected sweep to clear out remaining encampments around the nation’s capital. Thursday's actions are part of President Donald Trump’s federal takeover of policing in the city. Trump said this week that homeless people will be moved far from the city as part of his crackdown on crime. But details of the plan to do so are unclear. Washington’s status as a congressionally established federal district gives Trump the opportunity to push his tough-on-crime agenda. It’s prompted concern from advocates and others who say there are better ways to address homelessness.

US--Armored Vehicle Robberies-Philadelphia

Armed robbers in latest Philadelphia-area Brinks truck heist took $700,000 or more, police say

SUMMARY: Authorities are investigating whether the Tuesday robbery of a Brinks truck outside Philadelphia may be part of a pattern. Cheltenham Township police say two armed males stole between $700,000 and $800,000 during the heist outside an H Mart in Elkins Park, just outside city limits. They say one was armed with an AR-15-style pistol and the other with a handgun. Both fled and later abandoned their vehicle. No shots were fired, and no one was hurt. Township police Lt. Andrew Snyder says police and the FBI are investigating four other armored car robberies in the Philadelphia area since June.

Keegan Bradley as a playing captain? Rory McIlroy thinks the Ryder Cup is too big for that now

SUMMARY: Rory McIlroy has his doubts whether Keegan Bradley can be the first Ryder Cup playing captain since 1963. He also says Bradley is one of the best 12 American players and he's fascinated to see how this plays out. Bradley has a chance to play his way onto the team if he wins the BMW Championship. He is the defending champion. He makes six captain's picks after next week's Tour Championship. McIlroy says he's been approached about the possibility of being a playing captain and shot down the idea. He thinks the Ryder Cup has become too big for that.

Scottie Scheffler to use a different caddie at BMW Championship as regular deals with family matter

SUMMARY: Scottie Scheffler is turning to a professional caddie for the BMW Championship as his regular caddie remains home tending to family. Ted Scott had to leave the first PGA Tour postseason event last week after the third round for an undisclosed family emergency. Scheffler used a longtime friend to fill in. Now he's using the caddie for Chris Kirk, who missed the BMW Championship by one shot. Scheffler says Michael Cromie is a friend of Scott's who works hard. Alone and 2,200 miles from home, Venezuela shuts out Puerto Rico 5-0 at Little League World Series

SUMMARY: It took a lot for Venezuela to the Little League World Series, but on Wednesday it made the playing baseball part look easy. Cardenales Little League from Barquisimeto shut out Puerto Rico 5-0. Cardenales won all five of its regional tournament games, outscoring opponents 46-6 to become the Latin America representative to the LLWS. But in the wake of President Donald Trump’s travel bans and restrictions affecting 19 countries, the team needed a special exemption from the U.S. State Department and a sign-off from Secretary of State Marco Rubio after visas were initially denied. Venezuela’s senior team, players who are up to 16, which was supposed to compete in South Carolina, last month was unable to get the exemption and was denied entry to the U.S.
