US--New Jersey-Boil Water Order

Parched New Jersey city gets some relief days after water main break caused taps to run low

SUMMARY: Water pressure is starting to improve for thousands of frustrated residents in a northern New Jersey city. People in Paterson, New Jersey, have had little or no service since a water main break late last week. A boil water advisory issued for nearly 200,000 customers remains in effect. Some improvement came hours after crews were able to isolate the leak Monday night. However, officials said Tuesday that they still haven't reached the broken main, which is some 30 feet underground. They say service should continue to slowly improve during the day, but warned that residents in highly elevated areas will have to wait longer.

US--Pennsylvania Plant Explosion-Things To Know

An explosion at a US Steel plant in Pennsylvania has killed 2. Here's what to know

SUMMARY: An explosion at a U.S. Steel plant south of Pittsburgh has killed two people and injured more than 10 others. One worker was rescued from the smoldering wreckage hours after Monday’s blast at Clairton Coke Works. The plant converts coal to coke, a key component in the steel-making process. Clairton is one of four major plants in Pennsylvania owned by U.S. Steel. The company has been an icon of the domestic steel industry for over a century. U.S. Steel’s CEO is vowing to find out what caused the explosion. Union officials say representatives will work to ensure a thorough investigation.

US--Pennsylvania Plant Explosion

Massive rescue effort led to pulling workers from debris of Pennsylvania steel plant explosion

SUMMARY: Workers were heating coal and preparing for routine maintenance when an explosion rocked a U.S. Steel plant outside Pittsburgh. That's according to a company executive who spoke to reporters Tuesday, a day after the blast killed two workers. The explosion was powerful enough to shake nearby homes. It also injured more than 10 other steelworkers, including one who spent hours trapped in rubble. Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro and plant executives vowed to investigate and do whatever is necessary to prevent such an accident from happening again. The cause remains under investigation.

GLF--On The Fringe-Playoffs

Golf is not like team sports. It was never meant to have a finish line to the season

SUMMARY: There was so much faux outrage over Rory McIlroy missing the first PGA Tour postseason event. He wasn't the first to skip it. And he didn't even drop in the FedEx Cup. It should be a reminder that golf is not like other sports. There is no defining end to the season like a Super Bowl or a World Series. The PGA Tour originally called the postseason a “championship series” but then went to “playoffs” and it makes no sense. But what it created was incentive for the best to keep playing after the majors. That still works, even without McIlroy.

Keegan Bradley as a Ryder Cup playing captain? He has Jack Nicklaus to thank for the chance

SUMMARY: Keegan Bradley has a chance to be the first Ryder Cup playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963. And he has Jack Nicklaus to thank for that. The PGA of America made a rule that captains can't play after Palmer's dual role. But when Nicklaus was named captain for 1983, the PGA rescinded the policy. It has stayed that way ever since. Nicklaus came within one shot of qualifying for that 1983 team. The USGA has extended its deal with NBC to televise the U.S. Opens through 2032. Patrick Cantlay is the latest player working with putting coach Phil Kenyon.

Baltimore Ravens swim with Michael Phelps, get lessons from the Olympic champion

SUMMARY: The Baltimore Ravens had a unique training session with Michael Phelps. A few weeks after players asked the 23-time Olympic champion for swimming lessons, Phelps visited their practice on Tuesday. The team shared videos of players swimming and diving at Loyola University. In one clip, Phelps gave everyone a head start before racing them. Some players managed to beat him to the end. Phelps also toured the Ravens' facility and spoke to the team along with former Ravens star Ray Lewis. Defensive coordinator Zach Orr said Phelps and Lewis emphasized preparation and unseen hard work.

SUMMARY: The Baltimore Orioles have ruled out two more pitchers for the season. Right-hander Zach Eflin needs a lower back procedure, and closer Félix Bautista has a significant shoulder injury. Interim manager Tony Mansolino says Bautista has an appointment later this week. The Orioles have used 60 players this season, nearing their team record of 62 from 2021. Injuries have worsened the team's pitching woes. Grayson Rodriguez is also out for the season after elbow surgery. However, right-handers Tyler Wells and Kyle Bradish are almost back from elbow surgery, offering some hope.

Giants' Malik Nabers, who has been dealing with a toe injury, sits out joint practice at the Jets

SUMMARY: Malik Nabers did not participate in the New York Giants' first of two joint practices against the Jets. Coach Brian Daboll refused to answer when asked if Nabers' absence was related to the top receiver's lingering toe injury. Daboll similarly would not say if he was concerned about Nabers' status with the season opener less than four weeks away.
