Melvin Carlton 'Butch' Chase, 53
CAMBRIDGE - Melvin Carlton "Butch" Chase, 53, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at his home in Cambridge.
He was born May 17, 1954 in Philadelphia, Pa. the son of Sarah Chase and the late William Jackson.
Butch, as he was called, attended the public schools in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended the University of Pennsylvania for three years. In 1971, he enlisted into the United States Navy and was discharged in 1973.
Upon his return to Cambridge, Butch was employed with Sears & Roebuck, Eastern Shore State Hospital and 84 Lumber.
His hobbies were cooking, painting and computers.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Chase; mother, Sarah Chase, both of Cambridge; four children, Christopher and Javon Chase, both of Cambridge, Ron Gordon of Federalsburg and an adopted son, Montae Jenkins of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Ronee and Reonna Gordon, both of Federalsburg; a brother, William Chase of New Jersey; a brother-in-law, Charles Keene; four sisters-in-law, Dora Page, Dulcey Matthews and Anquenette Cornish, all of Cambridge and Donna Chase of New Jersey; an aunt, Norma Gordon of Cambridge; two uncles, Thomas Chase of Cambridge and Edwin Chase (Mildred) of Philadelphia, Pa. and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, a special friend, Shirley Opher and other friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday, at Henry Funeral Home, PA, 510 Washington St., Cambridge with a viewing one hour prior to the services. The Revs. Lemuel and Lavonne Chester will officiate. Burial is scheduled for Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Eastern Shore Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
