CRISFIELD — A concerned group of Crisfield residents has reserved the Crisfield Public Library for a meeting in advance of the City Council’s anticipated vote on a zoning change for the Carvel Hall property which would benefit its purchase by Spangler Strategic Advisors LLC.
The meeting will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8 and it will be a time to share information and raise issues concerning the zoning amendment that would allow “certain biomass resources” to be used for energy production in Light Industrial I-1 zones.
That “biomass” as described by Spangler would be chicken manure, converted into methane to power generators with the byproducts to include struvite pellets from the phosphorous which would be sold as a fertilizer input. Spangler has an exclusive option to purchase the property for $200,000 but without the zoning amendment the sale is unlikely to proceed.
Because of the anticipated attendance at the City Council meeting set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 10, it will be held at Crisfield High School.
All residents are urged to attend both sessions, with Monday’s meeting being a time to ask questions and learn more about the proposal.
