MaryAnn Egan Swain, 85
MaryAnn Egan Swain, 85, passed away peacefully on November 27th in Salisbury, Md., surrounded by her family. She is survived by her adoring husband Bob, her devoted children Ann (Kevin Smith) Larkum, Bob (Ginny) Swain and Frances (Ken) Sterling, brothers Mark (Kay) Egan and Bill Egan, as well as eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her beloved sister, Winifred Sanford.
MaryAnn aka "Mairsie", was beautiful, vivacious, and fearless. She will be remembered as a powerful and loving woman in all of her roles in life. Born in Pittsburgh to Richard Egan and Mary Haskell Egan, MaryAnn grew up living around the country and around the world. She loved her time living in Rome while her father worked in Eastern Europe. Her love of the Italian language, especially poetry, continued throughout her life.
MaryAnn met her husband of 65 years at a dance in 1952 and they were married in 1956. In their early years, they lived coast to coast and in between but their longest stints were in Silver Lake, Ohio and then Tulsa, Oklahoma where they lived for more than 45 years.
MaryAnn was the consummate hostess and loved having family and friends of all ages around her table for meals and games. She was an avid and competitive tennis player and golfer and loved teaching her children and grandchildren these sports, never "letting" them win without earning it. Grace and decorum were at the core of her being and good manners were lovingly drilled into all of her offspring. MaryAnn had a lasting effect on all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
The family will be having a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to High Spirit Community Farm, a Therapeutic Lifesharing Community and home to Mairsie's beloved grandson Bar Swain https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/HighSpiritCommunityFarm/donate-1.html
