HURLOCK - Mary Adams, 63, passed away on Monday, Oct. 1, 2007 at home with her family.
She was born July 16, 1944 in East New Market, daughter of the late Emory and Jessie Strawberry Adams.
Mary attended the public schools of Dorchester County and graduated in 1962 from Mace"s Lane High School. She was employed at Warwick Manor for 25 years in the dietary department as a cook, until retirement because of her illness.
She enjoyed shopping, talking on the phone, and cooking her famous corn pudding and chicken salad.
Ms. Adams was a member of Thompson Chapel UM Church, which later merged with Mt. Zion UM Church in East New Market (now known as Faith Community UM Church). She was involved in various church activities. Mary was a member of the Labala Singers, the usher board and the United Methodist Women.
Ms. Adams is survived by her daughter, Shenyne Adams; two special grandchildren, Gary Warner and Monique Adams, all of East New Market; a companion of 43 years, Tindley Parker; one sister, Dolly Rhodes (Daniel) of Hurlock and a brother, Charles Adams (Willie Mae) of florence, S.C. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins: a niece, raised like a sister, Clara Watkins (Robert), Valentina Thompson, Lolita Ferguson (John), Daniel, Alicia, Dwayne and Karen Rhodes, Marvin, Lashelle, Bobby and Dennis Adams, Laverne Strawberry, Keith Brown, Myra Neal and Tracy Molock (Derrick). Also surviving are two godchildren, Ashley Watkins and Albert Carter IV; special sister/friends, Delores Cornish, Linda Pinkett and Ernestine Saunders and many more great-nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Adams and Mary Alice Carr.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hurlock UM Church. Burial will be at Thompsontown Cemetery in East New Market.
There will be a viewing held tonight from 6-8 at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by the Bennie Smith Funeral Home.
