CAMBRIDGE - Marion Elizabeth Johnston, 97, formerly of Orlando, Fla., Farmington, Del., and New York, N.Y., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2007, in Dorchester General Hospital, Cambridge.
Mrs. Johnston was born in Farmington, Del., the daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Morean) Morgan. She moved to New York City when she was 18 years old.
She worked for Hurst Publishing in Manhattan, N.Y., for 25 years where she was an executive secretary. She then went to work for the FMC Corporation Chemical Company in New York City for 10 years. After retiring, she moved back to Farmington where she went to work at the Aetna Shirt Factory in Harrington, working as their business manager for 10 years. When she retired in 1978, she moved to Orlando, Fla., where she lived until becoming ill which required her to move to Cambridge to be closer to her family.
Mrs. Johnston was an avid reader, was interested in world affairs, and always had a keen interest in politics. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and enjoyed playing golf for years.
She is survived by cousins, Eugene T. Williams and his wife, Carolyn, of Cambridge; Edward A. and Beckie Williams, of Valdosta, Ga.; Robert T. and Margaret Williams, of Dover, Del.; Lorraine Petersen, of Fairfield, Conn.; Sen. Gary Simpson and his wife Deborah, of Milford; Connie Morgan, of Houston; Wayne Hart and his wife Joan, of Cannon, Del.; Nancy Smith and her husband Donald, of Lincoln and Hazel Lemon and her husband, John, of Milford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Johnston, in 1972.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, at Hollywood Cemetery, Milford - Harrington Highway, Harrington.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in memory of Marion Johnston to the Zion United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 612 Locust St., Cambridge, MD 21613.
Arrangements are being handled by McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, 50 Commerce St., Harrington, Del.
