Marion D. 'Pete' Corkran Sr.
HURLOCK - Marion D. "Pete" Corkran Sr., 56, passed away Saturday, May 12, at the Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.
He was the son of the late Naomi E. Collins and George M. Abey.
Mr. Corkran grew up in Denton and graduated from North Caroline High School in 1969. After graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam as an infantryman until 1971. He also served in the Maryland Army National Guard for several years as a Green Beret. Mr. Corkran worked as an electrician for 30 years. He had been employed by various companies including John W. Tieder, Cambridge, Inc., Nabisco and Primo Electric.
He was involved in Scouting and volunteered as a Scout Master and Assistant Scout Master for Troop 754 in East New Market for more than 20 years. He was a member of Hurlock American Legion Post No. 243 and Unity Washington United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret J. Corkran whom he married on Oct.6, 1972; one son, Marion D. "Petey" Corkran Jr. of Hurlock; one daughter, Janice L. Corkran and her fiance', Kevin Flannery of Herndon, Va.; six half sisters, Shirley Hollingsworth and her husband, Robert, of Milford, Del.,Joyce Corkran and her companion, Louis Bennett of Preston, Betty Donoway of Seaford, Bonnie Andrews of Greenwood, Del., Kathy Abey of Chestertown and Christine Anderson of Queenstown; two brothers-in-law, William Stevens of Linkwood and Robert Weimer of Hurlock; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Medford Andrews and a half sister, Dollie Stevens.
The viewing will be one hour prior to service on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market with the Reverend Lloyd R. Foard. Burial will follow in Unity Washington Cemetery.
