Marcus Acworth III

SALISBURY - Marcus Walton Acworth III died at home on Dec. 7, 2017, after a lengthy illness. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Marcus W. Acworth Jr. and Audrey Carey Acworth.
He was predeceased by grandparents, Marcus W. Acworth, Sr. and Rosalie Taylor Acworth and Oscar and Evelyn Carey. In addition, he was preceded in death by his fiancé, Ellen Nagel.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara McNaughton and husband James and niece and nephew Stephanie Gough (Greg) and Billy Blades and special friends.
Marcus graduated from Bennett High School in 1970, having briefly attending Valley Forge Military Academy. Marcus was a farmer and tomato canner as were his father and grandfather. He was an avid fisherman and hunter particularly on the family farm of Nutter's Neck, now Nanticoke Wildlife Refuge. He and his father often took Georgia Girl and BarMar to Baltimore and Dead Man canyons far out in the Atlantic on fishing trips. Mark was an accomplished captain. He also sailed, owning a former Salisbury University wooden racing sailboat.
He was a lifetime member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Quantico and a past member of Green Hill Yacht and Country Club.
A funeral service was held at St. Philip's Church on Friday, Dec. 15, 2017 at 2 p.m. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment was private in St. Philip's cemetery before the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Philip's Episcopal Church, PO Box 92, Quantico, MD 21856.
