M. Magdalene "Maggie" Mills

CAMBRIDGE - M. Magdalene "Maggie" Mills, 86, passed away at her home on Monday, June 18, 2007.

She was born in Bishops Head on May 3, 1921, and was a daughter of the late Charles Goldsborough and Lena Ruark Johnson.

Miss Maggie attended schools in South Dorchester County and graduated from South Dorchester High School in 1938. She was first married to George H. Robinson Jr. On April 25, 1981, she married W. Russell Mills.

She had worked with her husband in the family business, the Robinson & Baker Canning Co., for a number of years, and later worked as a dorm mother at the Eastern Shore State Hospital Nursing School for a number of years.

Mrs. Mills was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge where she was a member of the D.D. Club. After her marriage to Mr. Mills she also attended Zion United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Mrs. Mills had been in failing health since March.

Survivors include her husband, W. Russell Mills of Cambridge; one son, G. Herbert Robinson III and his wife, Barbara Robinson of Cambridge; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Robinson of Castle Haven; two stepdaughters, Sandi Stokes and her husband, Ernie Stokes of Hurlock and Bonnie Willis and her husband, Jim Willis of Castle Haven; three granddaughters, Julie Merrick and her husband, Steve Merrick, Marilyn Treiber and her husband, David Treiber of Trappe, and Debbie Powell and her husband, Jeff Powell of Salisbury; two grandsons, George H. Robinson IV and his wife, Beth Robinson of Trappe and C. Fred Robinson Jr. and his wife, Kellie Robinson of Cambridge; two stepgrandchildren, Ricky Smith and Megan Collins. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, Doug Burton, Laurie Merrick, Tish Merrick, Heather Meekins, T.J. Meekins, Rachel Treiber, Rebecca Treiber, Elizabeth Powell, Chase Powell, Jonathan Powell, Caroline Powell, Sarah Robinson, Dominick Wright, Olivia Robinson; and three great-great-grandchildren, Aubree Burton, Ashlee Burton and Logan Tortello; two brothers, Webster Johnson of Cambridge and C. Frederick "Whitey" Johnson of Cambridge; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Frederick Robinson Sr.; four sisters, Sophie Mills, Doris Marshall, Lelia Wingate, Margaret Parks; and three brothers, Brice Johnson, McCullough Johnson and Allen "Dick" Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Cambridge at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Douglas M Ridley and the Rev. Kevin E. English officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 501 Race St., Cambridge, MD 21613; the Endowment Fund of Zion United Methodist Church, 612 Locust St., Cambridge, MD 21613; or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Pallbearers will be George H. Robinson IV, Jeff Powell, C. Frederick Robinson Jr., David Treiber, Steve Merrick and Doug Burton.

Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
