Faye Loretta Hickman, 83, died Oct. 19, 2017, at Greenfield Assisted Living of Bel Air, Md., after a long struggle with dementia. Born in Laurel, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Elsie Hickman of Delmar. A 1951 graduate of Delmar High School, she retired from the Wicomico County Board of Education in 1993. She served as a teacher's aide for many years, and at the time of her retirement she was working at James M. Bennett Senior High School. She sang in many choirs and was a volunteer for the Christian Shelter in Salisbury and at Deer's Head Hospital Center, as well as serving at her church, Providence Presbyterian Church of Salisbury. She is survived by her two daughters, Christine Hoffman of Princess Anne and Terri Schmidt of Pylesville, Md; three granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite Webb of Dover; and two nieces. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, from noon to 2 p.m. at Short Funeral Home in Delmar. A graveside service will immediately follow in St. Stephens Cemetery in Delmar.
