SHARPTOWN - Lindy Howard Riggins died October 24, 2022 at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional.
He was born December 10, 1947, the son of the late Rubin "John" Riggins and Virginia Hayward Riggins.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Wanex Riggins; daughter, Heather Riggins Ritterpusch, husband Kurt and grandson Thomas of Annapolis. He also leaves behind his sister, Pamela Brohawn and husband Wigs of Woolford; brother, John Riggins and wife Lois of Kapolei, Hawaii; and his cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Riggins, Sr.; and nephew, Paul Riggins, Jr.
Lindy grew up in Cambridge and Golden Hill at his grandmother's Vera Riggins. He attended Dorchester County Public Schools and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1965. During his youth, Lindy was a standout athlete playing baseball, football, and basketball. After a football injury he taught himself to play tennis against a backboard and earned a tennis scholarship to Eastern Kentucky University. While he played tennis, he was ranked #2 in Maryland and #8 in the country. At Eastern Kentucky, he was a proud member of Sigma Chi fraternity. In 1969 he was honored as an Outstanding College Athlete of America. He graduated college in 1970 and then served in the U.S. Army. He served as First Lieutenant, Infantry, from 1970–1972, honorably discharged earning the National Defense Service Medal.
After military service, Lindy worked as a tennis pro and his favorite client was Chicago White Sox owner Bill Veeck. He also worked as a real estate agent at Powell Realtors. But his most relished roles in life were husband to Debbie, dad to Heather, god-father to Ridge Brohawn, Uncle Lindy to his nieces and nephews and late Papa to his grandson Thomas. He will be missed dearly by his family.
A memorial service was held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Maryland Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Beulah.
Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen VA 23060.
Arrangements are in the care of Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market.
