SALISBURY - Lee Francis Townsend died Monday, May 25, 2020, at home. Born in Salisbury, his parents were the late Virgil Leonard Townsend and Doris Parker Townsend.
He worked in the agricultural industry, producing and brokering vegetable commodities for a wide array of markets on the East Coast. A devout Methodist, he was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a 25-year school bus contractor for Wicomico County schools, served 16 years with the Wicomico County Planning and Zoning Board of Appeals, was a member of Beaver Run Ruritan Club and former president of the Wicomico County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Campbell Townsend; his brothers, Richard D. Townsend, Robert F. Townsend; daughters, Margaret E. Pattey and Leisa D. Reese; a son Jeffrey S. Townsend Sr.; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Bettye Catherine Waller; his second wife, Grace Valiant Townsend; and a son, Philip Wayne Townsend Sr.
A private funeral service was held at Holloway Funeral Home on Monday, June 1, 2020. A private interment will be held at the Hurlock Veterans Cemetery. A Celebration of Life service will be planned at a later date.
