TRAPPE - Lawrence Minish Thurman, Jr., of Trappe, Md., and Leesburg, Fla., died Friday December 23, 2011, at the Memorial Hospital at Easton. He was 85. Born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, Mr. Thurman was the son of Lawrence Thurman, Sr. and Mayme Brawner Thurman. Mr. Thurman came to Maryland in 1961 as a Federal Game Agent/Pilot, working for the US Fish and Wildlife Service until his retirement in 1982. He was a devoted husband, and father who enjoyed hunting and fishing and the time, he and his wife spent in Florida. Mr. Thurman is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Sue Carter Thurman; two daughters, Rebecca Sue Faulkner (Jay) of Trappe, Peggy Ann Cunningham (Jeff) of Elkridge, Md; and a son, Richard Carter Thurman (Brenda) of Vienna, Md.; eight grandchildren, Benjamin Thurman (Natalie) of Mableton, Ga., Jason Baynard (Casey) of Preston, Md., Karen Theil (Chris) of Heber City, Utah, Richard Thurman, Jr. (Tina) of Seaford, Lauren Baynard (fiance Randal Blunt) of Crofton, Md., Gavin Cunningham of Washington, D.C., Chad Thurman of Vienna, Md., and Jennifer Cunningham of Nashville, Tenn; five great-grandchildren, Colin and Christopher Baynard, Carter Thurman, Morgan Theil, and Brooklyn Thurman; a sister, Harriet Jennings of Shelbyville, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on December 28, 2011, at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home in Easton. Burial was at the White Marsh Cemetery in Trappe, Md. Pastor David Stewart officiated. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Trappe Volunteer Fire Co., 4001 Powell Ave., P.O. Box 86, Trappe, MD 21673.
