Laura Jane Schap, 80

SALISBURY - Laura Jane Schap, 80, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at Deer's Head Center.

She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa. on June 30, 1927 and was a daughter of Lawrence and Marie Hiiav.

Ms. Schap graduated from McKeesport, Pa. High School. She moved to Maryland to work with Cerebral Palsy Children and later entered the Church Home and Hospital Nursing Program and graduated in 1955. Ms. Schap then became employed by the VA Hospital at Fort Howard as a staff nurse, then as supervisor of intensive care and later Coronary Care supervisor.

Upon her retirement she made her home with Joseph and Elizabeth Peters and long time friend, Charlotte "Sis" Peters in Cambridge whom she cared for until her death. She was also a retired Major in the Army Reserve Nurse Corps.

She is survived by James Peters and his family, Barbara, Scott, Andrew and the Attison Barnes family.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Dorchester Memorial Park with the Rev. Sam H. McWilliams officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Heart Fund, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
