POCOMOKE CITY — When you were a teenager, where did you hide things you didn’t want your parents to find? Now that you’re a parent, do you know where to look in your child’s bedroom? Or, do you know the signs of risky behavior or substance abuse?
The Worcester County Health Department is hosting “Hidden in Plain Sight” free for parents and guardians from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at the YMCA in Pocomoke City. This event will teach caregivers where to look to find drugs and alcohol, and provide information on the latest substance abuse trends, signs and symptoms.
Sometimes the signs of risky behaviors like alcohol abuse, drug use, or mental health issues, can be right in front of us, but still hard to spot. The event will take parents on a tour of a simulated teenager’s bedroom filled with signs of risky behaviors, some obvious and others much harder to notice.
Originally scheduled for Dec. 9 but postponed due to weather, there will be a light lunch and a gingerbread making contest in a separate room for the youth. Pre-registration is encouraged by calling 410-632-0056.
