LAUREL, Del. - King L. "Jr." Gullette, 82, of Laurel, died Monday, March 28, 2011, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. He was born July 10, 1928, in Salisbury, a son of the late Lemuel and Virginia Ryan Gullette. King, or as he was affectionately known as "Jr." to family and friends, proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He retired in 1991 after 34 years of service as a welder for Cambridge Wirecloth. He was a long time, active member of Grace Baptist Church in Seaford, where he has served as a deacon, men's bible class teacher, Sunday school teacher and sung in the choir. He loved spending time in his vegetable garden where he would grow corn, watermelon, strawberries and a variety of other fruits and vegetables. Being good with his hands, he enjoyed working on old cars and airplanes, a result of his service in the Air Force. He was an avid NASCAR fan and rooted for Jeff Gordon. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Alma Gambrill Gullette; a daughter, Laura Beth Karch and her husband Brian of Cambridge; a grandson, Chris Geer of Fruitland; and two sisters, Stella Ellis of Laurel and Joan Adkins and her husband Joe of Salisbury. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Norene Gillis, Della Johnson, Margie Adkins and Shelbourne Gullette, who passed as an infant. A funeral service was 11 a.m., Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Short Funeral Home, Delmar, where family and friends called from 10 to 11 a.m. The Reverend Homer McKeithan officiated. Interment followed the services at Springhill Memory Gardens in Hebron. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Grace Baptist Church, 805 Atlanta Road, Seaford, DE 19973. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.shortfh.com. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
