Kenney L. Friend Sr., 48

PRESTON - Elder Kenney L. Friend Sr., 48, passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge.

He was born April 27, 1960 in Preston, the son of Bishop Chester P. Friend of Preston, and the late Lela Mae King Friend.

He was a graduate of Colonel Richardson High School, Class of 1978 and had attended Del Tech Community College. For the past three years he worked as a truck driver for Fedex National out of Preston.

He was an Elder and Assistant Pastor at Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bethlehem. He served as a member and president of The Brotherhood at the church, and was former Brotherhood vice president of the DC, DE, and MD District Council.

Besides his father, Bishop Chester P. Friend, he is survived by his wife of almost 28 years, Shirley M. Nichols Friend, whom he married on June 7, 1980; two sons, Kenney L. Friend Jr. of Preston, and Devin L. Friend of Easton; two brothers, Darwinian P. Friend of Denver, Colo., and Lonnie Friend of Federalsburg several nieces and nephews including Alicia Freeman, Tamara Freeman, Lonnie Friend Jr., and DeMarius Friend.

Preceding him in death were two brothers and a sister, Samuel Friend, Eugene Friend, and Doris Friend.

A memorial tribute service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Greater Mt. Zion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Bethlehem, where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the church with Bishop Charles Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greater Mt. Zion Church Cemetery.
