Katherine G. 'Kitty' Smith, 80
LINKWOOD - Katherine G. "Kitty" Smith, age 80, of Linkwood, died July 31, 2009, at her home. Born Aug. 26, 1928, in Andrews, Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late Washington Gore and Daisy Hughes Gore. Kitty attended schools in the South Dorchester area. On Oct. 24, 1947, she married Jack Smith. Kitty worked as a seamstress for Rob Roy for several years. Kitty was one of the founding members of Linkwood-Salem Volunteer Fire Department. She was a life long member and very active member. Her hobbies included quilting, seamstress work and ceramics. She and her husband had owned and operated J&K Ceramic Shop in Linkwood. Surviving besides her husband of 61 years, Jack Smith of Linkwood, are two daughters, Sharon Duvall and her husband James "Birch" Duvall of Cambridge, and Jackie Molisani and her husband Nick Molisani of Linkwood; a sister, Irma Fox and her husband John and their daughter Kandy Fox, with whom Kitty was like a second mother rather than an aunt, all of Cambridge; two grandchildren, Nick Molisani II and his wife Tesha, Kathy Yorton and her husband Gary; six great-grandchildren, Kelli Molisani, Damian Molisani, Caraline Shellabarger, Sara Molisani, Calyn Shellabarger, Daniel Yorton; a great-great-granddaughter, Aubree Molisani; and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents, was a brother, Emmit Gore. A memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 2, at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., 308 High St., Cambridge. Officiating at the service was Lay Leader Cathi Bisker, family friend and fellow fire department member. Inurnment will be private.
