QUANTICO - Joyce Priscilla Burrell died Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Wetipquin, she was the daughter of the late James and Pearline Taylor Mitchell. She was a 1960 graduate of the former Salisbury High School and was formerly employed with several companies. In her later years, she worked as a housekeeper. She was a member of Friendship U.M. Church in Wetipquin, where she was president of the United Methodist Women and served on the Salisbury District of U.M.W. She was also a member of the Star Light Gospel Singers, Wings of Faith and Voices United. She served on the Executive Board of the Wetipquin Community Center, was a member of the Westside Ministries and the Salisbury University Nabb Center. Her husband, Warren Burrell Sr., died in December 1963. Her survivors include five children, Sylvester Mitchell, Rebecca Brinson, Warren Burrell Jr., Christopher Purnell and Calvin Burrell; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Jerome, Ronnie, David and Bryant Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at Friendship United Methodist Church in Wetipquin. Interment was in the church cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury.
