John Robert 'Bobby' Era Sr.
SECRETARY - John Robert "Bobby" Era Sr., 67, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007 at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born June 26, 1940 in Cambridge, son of the late Joseph George Era Jr. and Catherine Elliott Era.
Mr. Era graduated from North Dorchester High School in 1958. On May 29, 1958 he married Norma Bradley.
Mr. Era served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1966 on the USS Chilton and the USS Prairie. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked in Vienna at the Delmarva Power and Light plant as a stationary engineer.
From 1972 to 1981 he owned and operated along with Jack Colbourne, the Colbourne and Era Fish House in Secretary. For several years he worked at the Eastern Shore Correctional Institute and then worked at the Eastern Shore Hospital Center in Cambridge until his retirement in 2002. After his retirement, he worked as a waterman.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Era of Secretary; two sons, John Robert Era Jr. of East New Market and Joseph G. Era of Mechanicsville, Va.; three grandchildren, Monica Era, Connor Era and Amber Era; one brother, Joseph G. Era III of Cambridge; one sister, Beverly Simpson of East New Market; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Anthony Era.
A period of visitation will be held tonight from 7 to 9 at the Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sunnyside Alliance Church in Secretary with the Rev. George Hufnagel officiating. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Maryland Veterans' Cemetery at Beulah.
Memorial donations may be made in his memory to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md 21802 or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
