CRISFIELD - John Gilbert Morgan, 76, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2007, at the home of his stepdaughter in Eden.
He was born Dec. 3, 1930, in Crisfield, to Hubert and Maggie Morgan.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the cruiser USS Worcester CL144 during the Korean War. He served as commander of American Legion Post 16, as a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Redmen"s Post 149.
"Johnny," as he was known, spent most of his life repairing boats on the Eastern Shore, including several of the skipjacks still on the water. He was the manager of Crockett shipyard and worked at Sea Mark Marine in Crisfield for several years. He enjoyed fishing and boating on the Tangier Sound.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years, Irene Mae Morgan; and his son, Danny Morgan.
He is survived by five stepdaughters, Terry Moore of New York City, Sandra Sigmund of Eden, Barbara Abbey of Princess Anne, Linda Barnes of Salisbury and Vicky Evans of Eden; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of his life was held Sunday, Aug. 26, at his stepdaughter"s home at 3764 Post Office Road in Eden.
