John Charles Funk, Jr. of Morgantown, and formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 at WVU Medicine - JW Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
John was born October 14, 1983 in Detroit, Mich., a son of the late John Charles Funk, Sr. and Sonya Barr Marshall who survives him in Marion Station, Md.
He is also survived by his son, Lewis Charles Funk; step-father, Dennis Marshall, Sr.; fiancé', Jennifer Kramer and her daughters Katelyn and Kara; maternal grandparents, Carroll and Linda Barr; brother, Christopher Funk, Sr. and his wife Caroline; sisters, Sarah Skelton and her fiancé Jarred Arabie, and Linda Barnett and her companion Bobby Sterling; step-siblings, Ashley Weaver and her husband Scott, Dennis Marshall, Jr. and Meghan Marshall; a very close aunt and uncle, Amy Rasel and her husband James, and Daniel Barr and his wife Sherry; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who loved him very much.
In addition to his father; he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Margaret Funk.
John grew up in the Baltimore area and later moved to Morgantown. He was a hard-working and talented guy. He was employed as a painter for over 20 years before opening his own business, Happy Painting and Remodeling, which he was very proud of. He did volunteer work for elderly and disabled people in his community.
He was a good artist and also recently began taking college courses to work toward his goal of attending law school and becoming a lawyer. John was a big hearted guy, and a great father to his son who he took a lot of pride in raising. He was very protective of his family. He loved spending time with his Mom and all of his loved ones.
John loved watching football and baseball and was a die-hard Baltimore Ravens and Orioles fan.
A private Memorial service will be held 02/19/22. Officiated by Pastor Steve Willing. The memorial will also be streamed live for family and friends who can't be here due to distance or other reasons.
