WESTMINSTER - John "Jack" Bennett, Sr., 80, of Westminster, Md. formerly of Cambridge, Md., passed away on August 19, 2010. Born on February 8, 1930 in Cambridge, Md., he was the son of the late Earl and Evelyn Andrews Bennett. After graduating high school, he was a professional baseball player with the Brooklyn Dodgers farm club for 4 years. He then served for 2 years in the United States Army. After his military service, he attended college in Baltimore and began his career in accounting and tax preparation. He began and developed tax preparation offices in Westminster, Md., and Hanover, Pa. Surviving him are his children, Stan Bennett of Buckeye, Ariz., John Bennett, Jr. of Westminster, Md., and Susan Bennett of Denton, Md.; brother, Earl "Buddy" Bennett of Lakewood, Colo.; grandchildren Mandy, Josh, Brandon, and Emily Bennett; and his dear friend of many years, Phyllis Egger of Hanover, Pa., He was predeceased by brother, Ted Bennett and sister Elaine Bennett Day. Funeral services were held on Monday at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster with Steve Hull officiating. Interment is in Rest Haven Cemetery in Hanover, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to "The Least of These" Ministries, C.O. Steve Hull, 170 Airport Dr., Westminster, MD 21157 or to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157. Online condolences may be made at www.prittsfuneralhome.com.
