PRINCESS ANNE — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Jazz Ensemble and Jazz and Popular Music Combos present their winter concert Thursday, Dec. 10. The event is free and open to the public and starts 7 p.m. in the Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts on campus.

Concert-goers can hear traditional jazz works from composers such as Duke Ellington, Dexter Gordon and George Gershwin as well as pieces from modern artists Snarky Puppy, Kurt Elling and Adele.

“So, if you like the hard-swinging sounds of Big Band Jazz and soulful improvisations by up and coming young performers who are propelling the art of jazz and popular music into the next generation, then this is the event for you,” said Dr. Brian Perez, UMES’ music coordinator and director of the jazz ensemble.

The Jazz and Popular Music Combos are under the direction of Dr. Brian Dean.  UMES offers a bachelor’s degree in K-12 music education and a new degree in jazz and popular music. Call 410-651-6571 or visit www.umes.edu/music for more information.
