EASTON - James Oliver Perry of Easton, MD lost his valiant battle with cancer at the Palliative Care Unit, University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014. Born Dec. 10, 1930 in Preston, Md., he was son of Roy Elbert and Hilda Frances Hopkins Perry. He graduated from Preston High School in 1947. In Jan. 1951, he joined the U.S. Navy and proudly served in the Caribbean and North and South Atlantic until being discharged in 1955. Following his release from active duty, he worked for I.E. Dupont in Seaford and McCord's Laundry, driving trucks. In 1963, Mr. Perry worked for J. McKenny Willis, which later became Bay Shore Foods and then Jaspers. The last twenty years of his career, he worked for Waverly Press in Easton as a camera operator. He retired in Dec. 1992. He was a member of the Choptank Tribe Camping Club, The Odd Fellows, American Legion # 70 and the Caroline County AARP. He married Peggy Cecil in August 1957 and they have been married for 56 years and made their home in Easton, Md. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing and especially traveling. He enjoyed attending his yearly U.S. Navy Reunions every year. Mr. Perry and his family traveled throughout the country on various camping trips as well as tours, meeting and making friends throughout the United States. He especially enjoyed the Pennsylvania Dutch area of Lancaster and going to the Green Dragon on Fridays. He also enjoyed sharing his life stories on camping, fishing, hunting and farming with his Chance's Store, Walmart, McDonalds, and Hardees friends later in life. He will be known as a loving husband, father and grandfather, valued and loyal friend and an inspiration to everyone he touched. In addition to his wife Peggy, Mr. Perry is survived by his daughter, Karen Perry Callahan (Jim); and by his grandson, Timothy Joseph Callahan; and granddaughter, Candice Lee Callahan of Cordova; and a brother, Donald Alvin Perry (Linda) of Preston, Md.; and two nieces and two nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Almira Perry Frampton and Jeanette Frances Sharp. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Easton Church of God on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. Friends may call Friday, January 31, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Easton Church of God. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Easton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Easton Church of God, 1009 N. Washington St., Easton, MD 21601 or the Royal Rangers, c/o the Easton Church of God.
