SALISBURY - James Kent Griffith of Princess Anne, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2015. He was born at Beebe Memorial Hospital in Lewes, the first of five children born to Hannah Ayres Esham and Robert Cyrus Griffith IV of Ocean City. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1972 and soon thereafter headed west to "seek his fortunes" in California. On his return east several years later, he met and married Janet Catlin of Princess Anne. They had two children, Michael C. Griffith and Elizabeth A. Griffith. He is survived by his wife, Linda M. Wiles, of Princess Anne; his mother, Hannah Esham of Berlin; his siblings Dirk Griffith of Kinston, N.C., Holly Eckman of Fargo, N.D.; and Christina Del Pino of Monte Verde, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Melinda Griffith Alvarez of Middleburg, Va. He was active in several organizations, including the Asbury Chancel Choir and the Salisbury Chamber Singers. He had a lifelong love of history, and was conversant in all areas of American, Maryland, and regional history. A funeral service, officiated by Rev. Dr. Benita Harris will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Following the service, a reception will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Camden Avenue in Salisbury. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., prior to the service. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury.
