WINGATE - James Dolar Hayden Sr. passed away on March 19, 2005.

He was born in Baltimore, raised in Pasadena, but lived 40 years in Wingate where he died at his home. He was the son of the late Bernard Wingate and Juanita Schillinger Hayden.

He entered the U. S. Army on May 9, 1941 and arrived back in the United States on Aug. 3, 1945 where he fought in the war in Normandy, Rhineland and Ardennes. His military occupational specialty was truck driver, Light 345; his military qualification and date was Combat Infantryman"s Badge Aug. 18, 1944, Man Rifle 03 March 1, 1943. He received the Purple Heart Medal, GO No. 18 5th Evac. Hosp. 44; Oak Leaf Cluster to Purple Heart Medal CO No. 13 Hq. 141st GH Aug. 19, 1944; American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with Bronze Arrowhead. He was wounded in action in France on June 8, 1944 and June 26, 1944. He held CPL in the U S. Army.

Mr. Hayden had a great love for the outdoors, loved to read and loved his children and grandchildren.

On Aug. 30, 1941, he was married at the Holy Trinity Church in Glen Burnie to Emma Doris Raynor. Within that marriage, they had 12 children: Juanita Hayden Rhodes of Toddville, James Dolar Hayden Jr. of Hurlock, Rachael Hayden Gabrielson of Bishops Head, Michael David Hayden Sr. of Wingate, Marlene Hayden of Alabama, Patricia Hayden Nelson of Toddville, Anthony Kim Hayden of Lakesville, Kathleen Hayden Ciotola of Linkwood, Elida (Jane) Hayden Phillips of Fishing Creek, Joseph Carrol Hayden of Fishing Creek and John Franklin Hayden of Toddville.

Mr. Hayden is survived by five brothers: Eugene (Peck), Roland, John and Ronald all of Pasadena and Edward (Pete) of Crapo; two sisters Lorraine (Eenie) Hayden Neubauer and Dorothy (Mush) Hayden Greenwell, both of Pasadena; stepmother-in-law Nivlys Anderson Raynor, a number of brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews; 23 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 30 great-great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; two great-great-great-grandchildren with two on the way.

Deceased are his parents, parents-in-law, brothers, Melvin (Reds) and Paul (Ike); a son, Paul (Paulie), and a grandson, Joseph.

He is buried at the Maryland Veterans" Cemetery near Hurlock.
