Irene Satchell

CAMDEN, N.J. - Irene Stanford Satchell, formerly of Fruitland, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, in Camden, N.J. She had made her home in Camden since 1951. Born in Fruitland, she was the daughter of the late Henry Wesley Stanford and Irene Wilson Stanford. Her husband, Bernard Lee Satchell preceded her in April 2000. She received her formal education in the public schools of Wicomico County, attending the former Salisbury Colored High School. She was formerly employed with the former Dulaney & Sons in Fruitland. Upon relocating to Camden, she became employed as a nurses' aide at the former West Jersey Hospital, now Virtua and later at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in the Pediatric Department, retiring in 1984. She is survived by three children, Bernard W. Satchell Sr., A. Dianne Thomas and Domita Satchell; ten grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, Bernard; one daughter, Phyllis S. Arthur; and three siblings, Oliver M. Stanford, Coston H. Stanford and the Rev. Ruth Stanford Furr preceded her in death. A funeral service was held Saturday at Hosanna A.M.E. Church in Camden. Interment was held Monday at Green Acres Memorial Park in Salisbury. Arrangements were in care of Jolley Memorial Chapel in Salisbury.
