SALISBURY - Hilda "Peggy" Taylor Cannon, 98, died peacefully in the comfort of her Salisbury home on Monday, March 7, 2016. She was the wife of the late Robert Ennalls Powell Cannon, Esq., and daughter of the late Harry Taylor and the late Hilda F. Taylor. Peggy was born in London, England and educated at Badminton School in Bristol. At the age of 22, she started working in the War Office in London, living there for the duration of WWII and surviving the devastating London bombings. In 1945, she married American soldier Robert Ennalls Powell Cannon in England. Then in 1946 she made the 5-day voyage to America, with other British "war brides" on the ocean liner, The Queen Mary. She moved, with her husband, to his home in Salisbury, Md. She became an American citizen, raised their four children and assisted her husband, Robert, in his business until his passing. Her amazing memory made Peggy the person you called for facts of history and etiquette, long before the Internet arrived. She was a mother and grandmother, first, and always a good friend. She will be remembered for her inviting cups of tea mixed with conversation and advice, and her brownies, scones and cakes, delivered to friends by hand, even in her nineties. Peggy volunteered her help wherever it was needed over the years. She was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, and in later years, Asbury United Methodist Church. She is survived by her loving children, Sharon Cannon Dashiell and Bill Dennis dear friend of Sharon and Peggy; Sally F. Cannon-Brown of Park City, Utah, son-in-law Paul Brown, grandson Christopher Brown, great granddaughter Basil Brown, and grandson Matt Brown; Robert P. Cannon, Esq., daughter-in-law Donna LaCurts Cannon, and grandson Austin Cannon; John T. Cannon, his fiancée Laurie Crawford, grandson Michael Cannon and his wife Megan and great granddaughter Taylor Cannon. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church in Salisbury, Md., where friends called one hour prior to the service. Interment followed at Parsons Cemetery, Salisbury, Md. Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, PA, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.
