CAMBRIDGE - Herbert R. Dodson Sr., 94, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007 at his home.
He was born in Castle Haven on Dec. 20, 1912 and was a son of the late John T. and Pearl Vane Dodson.
Mr. Dodson attended school in Castle Haven. On July 1, 1932, he married Thelma B. Hurley who passed away on March 1, 1999.
Mr. Dodson had worked for several auto dealers in Cambridge as a mechanic. Later he worked at the Cambridge Shipyard. Lastly, he worked for the city Of Cambridge as a custodian and as a mechanic at Rescue Fire Co.
Some of his hobbies were to hunt, fish, camping, wood working and to travel.
Mr. Dodson was an active member of the Rescue Fire Compa for 28 years before going exempt. He was also a past member Cambridge Lodge 1272 BPOE Elks.
He is survived a daughter, Jane Brown of Cambridge; a son, Herbert R. Dodson Jr. and wife, Deborah of Cedar Grove; three grandchildren, Kelly Lynn Hunt and husband, Tim of Cambridge, Debbie Ann Marshall and husband, Steve of East New Market and Duane Brian Dodson and wife, Stacie of Bishopville; three great-grandchildren, Kelly Marshall, Danielle Dodson, Devin Dodson and many nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by a son, John Herbert Dodson; four brothers, Frank Dodson, Elmer Dodson, Charlie Dodson and a special brother, Lee Dodson and wife, Sophie; and a sister, Edith Dodson Miller.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Jerry Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park.
A visitation will be held tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Duane Dodson, Kelly Marshall, Steve Marshall, Tim Hunt, Lee Dodson Jr. and Herbert T. Dodson.
